Flooded Basement
If your house is flooded, and the source is your septic tank or sewage system, be very careful and call us Immediately. Raw sewage is extremely dangerous and can carry a multitude of infectious agents.
Remove items out of the flooded area as soon as possible if the water was not infected.
Call Us immediately to take action to Disinfect, wash and Sanitize the infected area.
Wet materials can be VERY heavy. Be careful!
Allow wet items to air-dry as quickly as possible to prevent rot and mildew.
Electrical and "slip and fall" hazards are some of the most prevalent concerns.
All concrete floor, Brick Walls, Carpeting area, or tile floor should be sanitized as soon as possible to avoid spreading the bacteria in entire house.
Washable items should be washed and dried.
If you have carpet and it became wet, please contact Master Service Pro for advice on if it can be cleaned and dried properly. In severe flooding situations, it may be advisable to discard all carpeting.
Foam rubber mattresses and pillows can be washed, disinfected and air-dried in the sun. If in doubt that an item can be cleaned properly, it is best to discard it.
If your basement is finished with drywall and it became wet, it is best to discard and replace that portion to avoid the growth of mold. Some wood paneling may be salvagable if we can clean and dry it properly without it becoming warped.
Because electrocution is always a danger in a flooded basement, wait until the water recedes before you begin cleanup. If you decide to walk in the water, the electricity must be shut off at the main box.
